Role Overview The Lead Aircraft Maintenance Technician assigns daily job tasks and leads, directs and provides oversight of the work performance of subordinate crew members at the ORD station. The role sits in the Maintenance department and reports to the ORD Station Manager. The Lead reports to the Supervisor of the department to which the Lead is assigned, and in the Lead's absence the Supervisor appoints a qualified replacement to perform these duties. Key Responsibilities Coordinate with the Supervisor on the scheduling and assignment of daily job tasks. Lead and direct subordinate crew members in the performance of job tasks and ensure productivity and work quality are satisfactory. Ensure all identified maintenance discrepancies are documented. Perform troubleshooting and assist in determining the proper course of maintenance action when a discrepancy is found. Assist crew members with interpreting maintenance manual or SRM instructions. Ensure all maintenance performed by subordinate crew members complies with approved maintenance data such as the AMM, SRM, CMMs, WDM, service bulletins and EAs, and is properly documented. Provide on-the-job training to subordinate crew members as necessary. Provide oversight of crew members and assist the Supervisor in identifying the need for training or remedial training. Assist crew members in the accomplishment of assigned tasks. Assist the Supervisor in identifying any safety-related deficiencies. Perform any other duties as assigned by the Supervisor. Requirements Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily; the listed requirements are representative of the knowledge, skill and ability required. Own tools are required. Language: ability to read, write and understand spoken and written English, write routine reports and correspondence, and give verbal and written direction to assigned staff. Licences & Qualifications FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) licence required. Experience Previous Boeing 747 experience is desirable. High school graduate; some college and/or technical school desirable. Additional Information Physical Demands The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, stand, walk, talk or hear, and use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls, and occasionally to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Lift 10 pounds with each arm overhead. Twist and turn with normal strength forces. Climb numerous flights of stairs. Work on ladders and lifts and, in some cases, at high elevations. Work in a squatted position. Work in all weather conditions. Work Environment Work is performed primarily in a construction and maintenance setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
